National FFA Week February 21-28, 2015
Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. The week-long tradition began in 1947 in honor of George Washington’s legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. This week is an opportunity for FFA members, alumni and sponsors to advocate for agricultural education and FFA.
National FFA Southern Region Vice President, Stephen McBride, visited Mt. Everett on Feb. 27th. This is the first time a National officer has visited our chapter and it was an honor to show him our school. He was accompanied by National FFA staff members, Massachusetts state officers and the Massachusetts state advisor. FFA members were joined at a luncheon by SBRSD school committee members, administrators, and sponsors. The luncheon was prepared by Sue Petrucci’s culinary classes which everyone enjoyed. The Agriculture and culinary classes have been working together this year on a ‘Pasture to Table’ project, raising broiler chickens on campus. Following the luncheon, Mt. Everett FFA members gave their visitors a tour of the FFA barn and Ag classroom. The FFA barn is home to a small flock of Shropshire sheep, rescued alpaca’s and a rescued miniature horse. Six Shropshire lambs were born over the past two weeks.
